This book is a collection of twenty-five short essays about an interesting side road in twenty-five of the States, gathered over four years of traveling.
From a mountain road in Vermont at the height of leaf-peeper season to an icy stretch along a glacier in Alaska, Gail puts you in the passenger seat. This is the second in the Rumble Strip series, with Europe coming out later this year.
You're On! 100 Ways to Shine in the Media Spotlight was launched in the U.S. in September of 2018. This guide to media skills and media relations presents 100 ideas for handling media interviews, some from the interviewer point of view and some from the other side of the microphone. Author Gail Hulnick brings 20 years of experience in print, broadcast and online journalism to this handy collection of tips.
Then, in October, Gail put on her novelist hat, bringing out the second in the Media Mystery series. A Bird in the Sand is the story of a trio of priceless pendants that go missing -- one during a theft on a Caribbean island long ago, one during a loan to a Florida museum, and one during the filming of a movie in Savannah, Georgia.
Congratulations to David on bringing out this latest in his impressive collection of books on marketing, business development, and sales in the architecture, engineering, environmental consulting and construction industries. This charming bookstore near Gallows Bay and Christiansted, St. Croix is the latest to carry some of our books: Resorting to Murder, a cozy mystery set during an international chef competition on St. Croix, Resorting to Larceny, and The Lion's Share of the Air Time.
The first book in the series is now titled Rumble Strip Canada 150 and publication is just ten days away! It's a travel memoir about a coast to coast (east to west) road trip taken in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday.
The book is available for preorder on Amazon now and will be available online through Barnes and Noble, Chapters Indigo, and from indie bookstores, using Ingram or IndieBound, after July 1st, Canada Day.
The second book, Rumble Strip USA, is now titled Rumble Strip USA Off the Interstate, and it's being researched and written now. Projected publication date is May 2019.
A rumble strip is that line of grooves, either on the shoulder or down the middle of the highway, that reminds you that you’re getting near the edge and you should probably slow down, maybe do a little steering-wheel correction. Take a look around.
Those rumble strips have inspired us to start a new project — a series of books that will focus on travel. The first one, Rumble Strip Canada 150, is based on a cross-country drive in the summer of 2017, Canada’s 150th birthday. Planned publication date is July 1, 2018, Canada Day.
The next will be Rumble Strip USA Back Roads, about discovering quirky, twisty roads and random trips in the U.S.
Publication date for is October 8, 2018, Columbus Day.
While the print versions are still months away, we're posting the online stories on Instagram at
rumblestripbooks and on Twitter, @rumblestripbooks.
Please take a look and follow the travels!

What if a celebrity chef-tycoon mysteriously disappeared while on vacation at a Caribbean resort? That’s the question that gets things cooking in Resorting to Murder, which we’re launching next Tuesday, June 6. People have been asking about plans for a party but we hadn’t really considered it. It’s challenging—you’re there and I’m here. And is there enough time? I’m hoping to finish two more novels this year, maybe three, and I’m writing and practicing as much as I can.
But it would be fun to do something to celebrate. The whole world lives a lot of life online these days—could it be a virtual party? Have it on Twitter or Instagram in real time with electronic drinks, photos of appies and canapés, and some music? Would probably have to check out the ASCAP and SOCAN rules on this—so, maybe no music, maybe just reading from the book.
Where would I find some really nice, royalty-free photos of jerk chicken, shrimp roti and callaloo? What exactly would an “electronic drink” be?
Maybe there’s another way to celebrate the first day of publishing a new book? Read an old favorite?
What would you do?
The launch party idea isn’t on next week’s menu yet but if it does happen, you’re all invited!
It’s easy, when you hear all the negativity about the decline of reading and the pervasiveness of online swiping, clicking, copying, pasting, and sharing, to believe that there’s hardly anybody walking right into a good, old-fashioned bookstore to buy a brand-new copy of a book that will go on their shelf and stay there a long time.
But at least one recent fact runs counter to that conclusion: Publishers Weekly reports this week that sales of print adult fiction are up 12% in the week ended May 14, 2017, compared to the same week a year ago.
That’s good enough for me.
Next week WindWord Publishing & Media will join thousands of publishers, writers, and readers at BookExpo, the largest annual book trade fair in the U.S. If you’ll be there, look for our novel Resorting to Murder in the New Titles Showcase. The Ebook is already available for pre-order on Amazon and you can also enter a contest to win a free print copy at goodreads.com.
If you bump into Stephen King, Dan Brown or Mary Higgins Clark on the show floor, say hello for me!
Have a great weekend,
